This blog was originally intended to be my little rant against Big Brother – both the TV show and the government. Well, the TV show is dead (in Australia). I would like to think that channel 10 was so intimidated by my blog they felt compelled to cancel the show. That leaves the government. Fortunately for me, the Australian Federal government is just begging to be castigated at the moment – more on that later.

So, with the demise of the TV show, I have decided to expand the scope of this blog to anything. I will blog about anything and everything that is of interest to me. I’m not an experienced blogger, and I haven’t developed the habit of regular blogging, but hopefully I will manage to blog more than twice a year.

Just recently Channel 10 has been advertising the return of Big Brother for season 8. And they have actually found a way to make the show even worse – the new host (or co-host) is Kyle Sandilands. He is our very own Paris Hilton. Only less attractive. Interestingly, Channel 10 is using a clip of John Howard to promote the new season. I’m no fan of John Howard (frankly, I’m glad the Liberal party was flogged at the last election), but I completely agree with Mr Howard’s suggestion in this video clip:

Who is Big Brother? Why must Big Brother die?

Like most people, I have opinions about stuff. The great thing about the Internet is that anyone can share their opinions/ideas/beliefs, etc with the whole world (at least with all those people who have Internet access). Not that the whole world really cares what my opinions are. But that isn’t really the point. The Internet is the ultimate soap box. Traditional forms of expression which reach a large audience – TV, newspapers, radio – are prohibitively expensive. I can’t afford to take out full page ads in the newspaper for the purpose of sharing my opinions. But the Internet is different – any nut job can register a domain and for a few bucks a year he can set up a website where he can rant and rave to his heart’s content.

The “Big Brother” referred to in the name of this web site was originally just the steaming pile of shit “reality” TV show where a bunch of losers go and live in a house together and a different bunch of losers watch them on TV (and the Internet). That show, and more importantly, what it represents, is what prompted me to register the domain “bigbrothermustdie.com”. My hope is that this blog will generate a groundswell of discontent so powerful that channel 10 (in Australia) will be forced to cancel the show. OK, so maybe I’m a little delusional, but it’s my delusion and it makes me feel good.

But then I started thinking, “why limit myself to a dumb TV show”? So this blog is going to be about my thoughts and opinions and observations on a range of topics. Obviously one of those is TV (especially “reality” TV). But my musings will extend to include topics such as politics, technology, the environment, celebrities, and anything else that happens to take my fancy. Feel free to add your comments (although comments which are offensive on the grounds of sex, race or religion will be removed).
